For three days in September, 213 Bowery in NoHo was a corner store built entirely around cats. TEMPTATIONS opened the Cat Bodega there, a tribute to the shop cats who sleep in the window and patrol the aisles of bodegas across New York.
TEMPTATIONS is America's best-selling cat treat brand, owned by Mars, and this was its first bodega. The concept came together with comedian Heidi Gardner, a cat mom of three - John Ross Jr., Lil Romeo and Wish Bear - who put it best: a real NYC bodega is the only place on earth where you can buy an iced coffee, long-stem roses and cat treats in one stop.
Triggerhouse created and produced the experience, and the detail is what made it land. A newspaper box on the sidewalk handed out copies of the Daily Mews. Inside, shelves were stocked like the real thing, only for cats: free Classic Treats and Lickable Puree to take home, a King Claw machine, a gachapon machine, scratch-off tickets with collectible merch as prizes, a community cork board, and a secret Bodega Cat Hideaway - a life-sized cat condo set up as a break room, which was the photo everyone took.
It ran free and open to the public, noon to 6pm, alongside a virtual bodega on the brand's site where people could send treats to working cats around the country.
