Slicing Burning Boiling @ 2 Rivington October 25 - 28 / 12 - 6 pm Opening Reception: October 24 / 6 - 9 pmSlicing Burning Boiling is an experimental response to the often exclusive and discriminatory nature of the contemporary art market. Featuring 11 young artists who critically interface with capitalist, Euro-centric education systems, the exhibition disrupts the impulse to create commercialized art by exhibiting highly personal, intimate work. The works will range across media, such as a sculpture installation made of matchbooks, and a painting inspired by a love letter that the artist had received. Further, it disputes the abusive correlation between value and labor in art-making. In doing so, it renegotiates the "process" of becoming a successful "artist" and questions the authority of those who have established such boundaries for decades.Produced and curated by Ebru Eltemur, a 20-year-old Istanbul-bred curator-to-be, it will be an experimental group exhibition that explores the questions of intimacy, identity-making, and relationships. Ebru adds, "I see it as more of a survey analysis of the way we see ourselves and how that differs from the way we see others." It is an amalgam of undisclosed thoughts, abused emotions, and lessened ambitions. Work By:
