Art Above the Sofa: Next Generation by New York Arts Etc., LLC

The purpose of this exhibition is to bring attention to emerging artists that already have exciting, innovative ideas for the next wave of art making and exhibiting. Conversations with the artists will take place throughout the weekend.

New York Arts proposes the sofa as the site for their creativity in response to the current trend of making art bigger, thus demanding a larger foot-print in the environment. The event is a juried show for art students in accredited depts., AA, BFA, MFA – or from abroad.  At the end of the competition, there will be two first-place winners: one by popular vote and one by professional jury.

New York Arts is pleased to announce the first place winner of the juried competition: Wa Liu, Yale University, with her work Exposure, from her series Selfies

Second place winner of the juried show and first place winner of the popular Facebook vote is Vicci Weixi Zhang, Trinity College, with her Blossom, 2017.

Second place winner for the Facebook competition is Priscila Schott with her Complexity II, 2017.

These student artists' works will be exhibited with the featured jurors' works and invited artists. A monitor will also have the whole show of top submissions online.

Art Above the Sofa: Next Generation jurors are: Kathleen Gilje, Wilhelmina Grant, Sasha Meret, Ruby Silvious and Marjorie van Cura. Our invited artists are: Gerri Davis, Toni Quest and Christina Thomas.
