Parasol Projects is pleased to announce that mykonos, a solo exhibition by Akiko Kawayanagi, is on view from November 28th, 2017 through December 3rd, 2017 at Parasol Projects with an opening reception on Thursday, November 30th, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Kawayanagi, an award-winning jewelry designer from Japan, established her own brand “mykonos,” which utilizes sophisticated jewelry making technique that embraces Japanese traditional craftsmanship and beauty. By combining her delicate and sensitive skills without influence of traditional jewelry making processes and her sense of contemporary art, she has developed her own style blending traditional Japanese craftsmanship and western jewelry. Using her intuition without drawing any design sketches, Kawayanagi uses many different types of materials, inspiring a creative beauty that allows us to imagine a borderless world without conflict.
Kawayanagi is quoted as explaining, “I hope my art will act as a bridge between Japan and the world and inspire people everywhere to come together and live in peace. I offer the Japanese sense of beauty to the world as a prayer for peace.”
Kawayanagi has received a prestigious award, the 15th Japanese Art and Japanese Selected Artist Award Exhibition, Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, Japan. In addition to the award, Kawayanagi’s work has been exhibited in Tokyo, Paris, and New York.
