To Be Determined
A Painting Show

Lower East Side Gallery

November 5 - November 11, 2013
Opening: November 5, 6 - 9 PM

To Be Determined brings together a rare assortment of emerging artists for A Painting Show, reclaiming painting as their primary medium of visual inquiry. Painting itself becomes the binding subject as the artists draw from traditions of landscape, figuration and abstraction. Curated by Anna Harrah and generously sponsored by Murray's Cheese, the exhibition features artists Caitlin Keogh, Lizzy Marshall, David Molesky, Anna Marie Rockwell, and Alexander Wemple.

This assemblage of paintings reveals a skillful deployment of both ‘old master’ and contemporary techniques. Each painter finds a unique relationship to the plasticity of the medium embracing or expanding its limits. A wave, a freeway, an embroidery detail become the excuse for an aesthetic investigation, at the same time that these motifs strike us with their powerful affect. Some strokes, through their strength and gestural quality, evoke psychological introspection, where as others take us out towards an examination of physical matter. The space where the inside and the outside come together is yet to be determined.
